Apparently even Nature sometimes shows little acts of kindness- in a rare incident, documented for the first time, a female barn owl, a mother to 9 chicks of her own, adopted orphaned chicks, located at a nest over 3.5 kms away, whose own mother was run over by a vehicle on HaSargel Road, earlier this month. “It seems Nature is not as cruel as we tend to think”, said Dr. Motti Charter, from the Department of Evolutionary and Environmental Biology at the University of Haifa. Dr. Charter was the first to discover and document this rare adoption.
