Gerontology is a scientific discipline that developed in response to the aging of the human population. Gerontology is a multidisciplinary program which draws on contents from the fields of welfare, sociology, psychology, medicine, biology, etc. Both research activity and the development of knowledge in the department are conducted in several areas: Policy and administration, studies relating to service development and administration, social policy, systemic approaches to the operation of services, and finally, the micro level that concentrates on the care of elderly people and their families, examines various aspects of coping with illness, the reactions of elderly people and their families to a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and other diseases, intergenerational relationships in the aging family, caring for elderly family members, and abuse of the elderly.
