Ph.D. Study Departments
Ph.D in Marine Biology
Duration of studies: 4 Years | Registration Status: Open for Fall semester 2021-2022 | Department web site
Oceans cover 70% of the earth’s surface. They are abundant with life and hold within them valuable natural resources that may be used as sources of food, energy, and medicines in future generations.
Most oceans and seas have not been researched yet, despite their great importance to the future of mankind. The University of Haifa’s Department of Marine Biology offers interdisciplinary Master of Science and Ph.D. programs that combine courses in marine biology, molecular biology, ecology, and oceanography, with field work and advanced laboratory research in various areas of marine biology. These studies enable department graduates to use their knowledge and research skills to monitor the oceans, understand the processes of change taking place within them, and to guide decision-makers toward preserving the planet’s marine heritage and environment.
Only outstanding graduates of a recognized institution with a Master of Science in biology, marine science, or other related science disciplines, with a minimum weighted final grade of 90 in graduate degree studies, and a score of 90 and above on the thesis, can be accepted to the department (supplementary studies may be required). Outstanding graduates in other fields may be accepted to the department’s doctoral program and will be required to complete supplementary studies.
Four years (in two stages), according to the Graduate Studies Authority program.
Post-graduation employment opportunities: Academic research, R&D in the biotechnological industry, consulting services, monitoring and teaching.
