Department of Human Biology
The purpose of doctoral studies in the field of human biology is to encourage and promote research in the field of life sciences and medicine. The findings of the various studies carried out within the department will be published in the most important international professional journals. This track will allow excellent students to conduct their research in a department that combines a variety of disciplines in the field of human biology.
The track with thesis writing will accept outstanding students with a Master of Science degree or the equivalent in the following fields: life sciences, biotechnology, bioinformatics, natural sciences, or medical sciences. Candidates with a Master of Science from other fields may also apply, provided they meet the admission requirements. These candidates may need to take supplementary courses to be decided by the doctoral committee. Students with a minimum GPA of 85 in their M.Sc. will be accepted, while for the dissertation, a minimum grade of 86 is required. Candidates who have had an article published from their M.Sc. thesis or have a manuscript submitted for publication in an international scientific journal, will be given priority. Candidates must find a research facilitator with the rank of senior lecturer and above from the department.
The duration of the research and study program is 4 years. To receive the degree “Doctor of Philosophy,” students will be required to fulfill the following conditions: Compulsory participation in the departmental seminar (not to be weighted) and attending courses (without writing papers) for a total of 12-14 credits while completing the degree. The courses will be selected from a list of courses offered by the department in coordination with the direct supervisor and in accordance with the field of research.
