Criminology is an interdisciplinary field that combines sociological, legal, psychological, philosophical, demographic and other facets, in order to analyze phenomena related to the study of crime, social perversion and crime victims, delinquency, enforcement of law and order, and establishing policies.
The Master of Arts programs in criminology develop and grant academic skills for the analysis and evaluation of various phenomena in the fields related to crime, delinquency and victimization in terms of individuals and society, providing a broad methodological and theoretical foundation, and the abilities to apply knowledge for purposes of counseling and integration in agencies of law enforcement, imprisonment, and the courts.
The School of Criminology’s programs provide students with in-depth knowledge of research, theory, and policy in a variety of fields in criminology, and how to apply them in the following specializations: Criminal Investigation, Law & Society, and Addiction related Criminal Investigation.
The School of Criminology also offers a program dedicated to employees of law enforcement systems and a program for students studying for a Bachelor of Laws.
General Admission Requirements:
1. Complete Matriculation Certificate/ high school diploma or an equivalent recognized by the Israeli Ministry of Education or by the Registration Department.
2. Psychometric Entrance Examination / SAT or ACT.
3. Knowledge of English– The level of English is determined within the framework of the Psychometric Entrance Examination, the English Placement Tests (AMIR /AMIRAM) or SAT, TOFEL, IELTS, ECRL tests.
The minimum level of English required for admission to the university is Basic (a score of at least 85). Certain departments require a higher level of English.
4. Knowledge of Hebrew – Applicants who took the Psychometric Entrance Examination in a language other than Hebrew and graduated from high schools where the language of instruction was not Hebrew, must prove satisfactory knowledge of Hebrew before the beginning of the academic year by passing a Hebrew Proficiency Test (YAEL/ YAELNET/ Hebrew classification test of the University of Haifa* ). The score required for admission to the University of Haifa is a score of at least 120 on the YAEL/ YAELNET/ Hebrew classification tests.
Applicants whose scores on the YAEL/ YAELNET/Hebrew classification tests range from 90-119 and their Psychometric score was at least 500 will be conditionally admitted and will have to pass the Hebrew Proficiency Test at the required score by the end of the first year of their studies. These students also have the option of studying a Hebrew literacy course within the framework of the University of Haifa preparatory program (Mechina) . Those who meet the course requirements and their final score in the course will be 85 and above will be exempt from the Hebrew condition.
Please note that certain departments require a higher level of Hebrew and that some departments do not approve admission with a Hebrew condition.
*The Hebrew classification test and Hebrew literacy course is valid at the University of Haifa only.
5. Departmental Entrance Examinations/Special admissions requirements – Certain departments require applicants to take a departmental Entrance Examinations and/or attend an interview or meet other departmental requirements.
In addition to the general university admission requirements, the candidate must meet individual departmental admission requirements.

Departmental admission requirements:
- Admission Requirements for Students who have a Matriculation Certificate** but have not taken the Psychometric Exam:
Candidates with an average minimum grade of 95 in their matriculation exam, will be allowed to take a departmental aptitude test. If they pass the test, they will be offered to join the pre-undergraduate study track. In this track, candidates will be required to take certain courses determined by the school in their first semester.
If they receive the required grades in the pre-undergraduate track courses, they will be accepted to the Bachelor of Arts studies the following semester. These courses will count towards their degree. - Applicants with a grade point average of over 540 will be offered to join the pre-undergraduate track. In this track, the candidates will be required to study courses that are on the list and meet the average that will be determined by the school.
- Applicants with a psychometric score above 660 – the matriculation average will not be taken into account. They will be offered to join the pre-undergraduate track. In this track, the candidates will be required to study courses that are on the list and meet the average that will be determined by the school.
- Required English – minimum required: Basic English.
- Required Hebrew – minimum grade of 110 in the YAEL Hebrew (conditional acceptance) Proficiency Exam or equivalent university exam, or successful completion of a university literacy course.

- There is a double major degree and a single major degree.
Employment options upon graduation: Criminology graduates join various organizations, both public and private, dealing with criminal investigation, law enforcement, addictions, and more.
In addition, graduates already working in the field will gain the option of advancing and developing in their field of employment: criminologists, employees of the Israel Police and the Prisons Service, associations for youth at risk, psychologists in public/educational service, social workers, lawyers, and employees of the various educational systems.
