The Department of Learning, Instruction, and Teacher Education is based on an integrative concept that involves the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of learning, instruction, and teacher training in innovative learning environments, professional learning, guidance and training, curriculum design, and teaching a discipline. The program provides an academic, empirical, and practical basis for working in formal and informal educational settings.
Students of the department will acquire extensive knowledge in teaching their discipline alongside a broad interdisciplinary perspective of teaching processes, designing and developing learning environments, teacher education processes, and professional development. The department combines contents of teaching, learning, and instruction, while emphasizing the link between theory, research, and practice, innovative pedagogies, and personal and professional development of educators.
The department aims to train and develop educators, professional teachers, and instructors to have wide-reaching academic knowledge in the various disciplines, a comprehensive social vision and commitment, and a high level of professional skills

Ph.D. studies are designed for select students with a Master of Arts who have written a thesis and are interested in specializing in a specific topic related to learning, instruction, and teacher training, and in conducting comprehensive in-depth research on that subject. Doctoral students are required to take a small number of courses while the bulk of their studies involves writing a research proposal, conducting the research, and writing the final dissertation guided by a personal supervisor from the departmental faculty. The degree takes approximately four years. In exceptional cases, a student may be accepted to the Direct Doctoral track which includes studying for a Master of Arts (without having to write the MA thesis). This track is only offered to particularly outstanding students and acceptance to this track is rare.
Post-graduation employment opportunities: The department’s graduates can find employment in the fields of education and in academic teaching and research.
